about

Danny De La Matyr has been drawn to the creative Arts all of his life. His fascination with Art and Music lead him to the University of North Texas where he pursued his studies in Painting and Drawing. During his studies, Danny also began playing guitar and singing in different bands. After college, he focused solely on his career in Music. He began writing his own songs and formed a band, The Days, in Dallas, Texas. Soon, other bands were asking him to play with them as well and he decided to put the Painting and Drawing on hold.

In the spring of 2003, singer/songwriter Danny made the move from big city to bigger city, relocating from Dallas to Los Angeles. As soon as he arrived, he was asked to play lead guitar in Old 97’s front man Rhett Miller’s touring band. After the short but critically acclaimed tour, De La Matyr settled into his adopted city and formed a band The Sheers. Soon, however, he felt the need to paint again.

Danny prefers to use mixed media on canvas and sometimes wood to build a certain texture in his paintings. He creates many layers on one painting, hiding the original painting with the one you see. Demonstrating the idea that there are hidden layers to what we normally see around us and within us. Danny’s pen and ink drawings are more spontaneous, often beginning with a splotch or splatter of ink. In this way, he allows the ink to lead the pen. His drawings have been described as ‘exhale onto paper, an ethereal filament breathed just so.’
